Soccer legend Pelé
Pelé (Edson Arantes do Nascimento), turns 80 on 23 October 2020. He was born on 23 October 1940 in Três Corações, Brazil. The Brazilian football legend played 1363 matches in his career and scored 1283 scores. He is considered by many to be the best football player of all time.
Pelé made his debut at the age of 15 with Santos FC football club. In 1958 he won his first prize with Santos when they won the Campeonato Paulista. He scored 58 goals that season, a record that still stands. Real Madrid, Juventus and Manchester United tried to win Pelé in the years that followed, however, the Brazilian government considered Pelé a national treasure and prevented him from leaving Santos FC. He quit playing football in 1974 but made a comeback in 1975 at the American New York Cosmos, a club where several celebrities played at that time. Feyenoord Rotterdam tried in vain to persuade him to join the club that year.
