The ride of the last Sioux

Commissioned by the French magazine Le Figaro Magazine, photographer Maud Delaflotte has captured the ride of the last Sioux. Each winter, they embark on a 300-mile horseback ride from Lower Brule, an Indian Reservation in South Dakota, to Mankato, Minnesota. The journey is dedicated to their ancestors who were executed in 1862 during the Indian War. The ceremonial dress worn by the Sioux is still essential to keep the Native American culture alive.
